What is a Nursing Associate?
Nursing Associates work with healthcare support workers and Registered Nurses, helping to deliver care for patients.
It is often seen as a stepping stone to becoming a Registered Nurse and is a relatively new role within the nursing profession.
What are the daily duties of Nursing Associates?
Nursing Associates carry out a wide range of tasks which may include:
• Clinical tasks including venepuncture and ECGs
• Helping individuals and their families when faced with unwelcome news and life-changing diagnoses
• Recording clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respiration and pulse
• Working closely with Registered Nurses to discuss patients’ needs
• Preserving the dignity and privacy of patients
What qualifications do you need to become a Nursing Associate?
To begin training as a Nursing Associate, you’ll need GCSE A-C grades in Maths and English.
You’ll then be able to complete the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship programme.
But essentially, no specialist qualifications are required to being your training as a Nursing Associate.
How much do Nursing Associates earn?
During training, Nursing Associates are paid a Band 3 salary.
Once qualified, Nursing Associates are paid a Band 4 salary.
Qualifying as a Nursing Associate is the perfect foundation to become a Registered Nurse, where you can earn a Band 5 salary or beyond.
